Volunteering

Join the Cornerstone team

Could you be part of Cornerstone's next chapter?

Cornerstone Library is run by local volunteers, and there are many ways to get involved.

People give their time in different ways, from helping in the library and taking books into the community to organising events and helping plan for the future.

Whether you have a few hours to spare, useful experience to share, or simply want to be part of something local, we'd be pleased to hear from you.

You don't need to know exactly where you might fit. Come and have a chat with us.

At the heart of Cornerstone

Help in the library

Our volunteers help make Cornerstone a friendly and welcoming place for everyone.

Library volunteers help visitors, issue and return books, keep the shelves in order and support our regular sessions.

You don't need previous library experience. We provide support and help you become familiar with how things work.

Beyond the library

Community outreach

Cornerstone doesn't stop at the library door.

Our outreach volunteers help us reach people across the local community, including through our Library at Home service for people who may find it difficult to visit the library themselves.

We'd particularly like to hear from people who enjoy meeting others, making local connections and helping us extend what Cornerstone can offer.

Could you help us reach more people?

Help make things happen

Fundraising & events

Fundraising plays an important part in keeping Cornerstone running and helping us develop new services for the community.

We're looking for people who can help with fundraising activities and events, whether that's organising, coming up with ideas, making local connections, finding sponsors or simply lending a hand on the day.

You don't have to be an experienced fundraiser. Enthusiasm, ideas and a willingness to get involved are just as valuable.

Skills, ideas and experience

What could you bring to Cornerstone?

Volunteering isn't only about giving time in the library. Sometimes the most useful thing you can bring is your experience, knowledge, ideas or connections.

We're particularly interested in people with experience or an interest in:

  • Fundraising & events
  • Community outreach
  • Partnerships
  • Sponsorship
  • Business
  • Finance
  • Governance
  • Strategy
  • Library services

You don't need to tick every box. If you think you could contribute something useful, we'd be very happy to have an informal conversation.

Help shape our future

Could you help shape Cornerstone's next chapter?

Some of our volunteers also serve as trustees of North Meols Library Association, the charity behind Cornerstone Library.

Trustees help guide the charity, plan for its future and make sure it remains well run, financially sustainable and responsive to the needs of our community.

We're currently particularly keen to meet people who may be interested in becoming trustees and who can bring useful experience, ideas or local connections.

Previous trustee experience isn't essential. What matters is an interest in Cornerstone and a willingness to contribute alongside the rest of the volunteer team.

If you're curious about what being a trustee involves, come and talk to us. There's no obligation.

What you can expect from us

Our commitment to you

We want volunteering at Cornerstone to be a positive and rewarding experience.

Choice

Volunteering is freely given. There should be no pressure or obligation, and we understand that people's circumstances and availability change.

Diversity

Volunteering is open to everyone. We welcome people with different backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives.

Recognition

We value and acknowledge the contribution volunteers make to the library and the wider community. Every contribution matters, and we want volunteers to feel respected, appreciated and part of the Cornerstone team.

Interested in getting involved?

You don't need to make a commitment or choose a role before getting in touch.

Come into the library, complete our volunteer form or simply have an informal conversation with one of the team about how you might like to contribute.

We'd be very pleased to meet you.

Warm Welcome at Cornerstone Library
